How to use the Ingredient Weight Calculator

Pick an ingredient to see how much a cup, half cup, third cup, quarter cup, tablespoon, and teaspoon of it weighs in grams and ounces, all at once. Need a different amount? Enter any custom quantity below the table to convert it instantly using the same ingredient-specific density data.

Why do different ingredients weigh differently in the same cup?

A measuring cup is a fixed volume, but ingredients pack into it at different densities — a cup of flour is light and airy compared to a cup of honey or brown sugar, which pack much denser. That's why this calculator uses ingredient-specific gram weights instead of one generic number for every ingredient.

Is this the same as the Cups to Grams Converter?

They share the same density data, but this tool shows every standard measure for one ingredient at a glance in a reference table, while the Cups to Grams Converter is built for converting one specific amount and unit at a time.

Should I measure by weight or volume when baking?

Weight is more accurate and more consistent, especially for flour, which can vary by 20% or more between a loosely scooped cup and a densely packed one. If a recipe only gives cups, use this calculator to convert to grams and get more reliable results.
